The department of urology at PGIMER traces its origin to 1960’s.
1966: Urology services began as a division in the department of surgery with late Dr. P N Kataria and Dr. Inder Prakash as a faculty.
1967: The First MCh Urology fellow joined in the department.

1979: The first urodynamic facility in the country was established.
1998: Lithotripsy services were introduced and department became a centre for comprehensive management of stone disease with all facilities under one roof (URS, PCNL, ESWL and Open surgery)
2004: The advanced urology centre was inaugurated and the indoor bed strength was augmented to 60. Investigative urology was also started in the same year.
2014: Robot assisted facility was started with a state of art operation theatre complex.
Today: The department of urology at PGIMER Chandigarh has evolved as one of the finest facility for training in urology and management of complex urologic problems. During the six decades of existence the department had produced a talent pool of 159 urologists and another 19 are under training at present.
